One of the biggest misconceptions is that health insurance agent services affect your insurance premium. The truth is, agents are paid by the insurance carrier for their services; your insurance premiums will be the same whether you use an agent or go directly through the carrier.
Independent health insurance agents are there to make sure you choose the best plan for your needs and your wallet. They are there to make sure you understand what you are buying and they will service your policy for as long as you own it. An independent agent is an agent who represents multiple health insurance carriers, opposed to a captive agent who represents only one insurance carrier. Independent agents have the freedom of giving you an unbiased choice of insurance carriers to shop from. Expert Insurance Services is an independent agency representing multiple health insurance companies.
Understand Your Health Insurance Needs
There are many different types of health insurance plans on the market. Understanding your health insurance needs will help you choose the best plan. You should ask yourself the following questions:
How often do my family and I go to the doctor's office?
If you go often (more than 3-5 times combined) you may consider a low deductible, office visit copays, and prescription drug copays.
If you do not go very often (once or twice a year) you may consider a high deductible, no office visit copays, and no prescription drug copays.
How often do we (I) use prescription medications?
What doctors and hospitals do we (I) want to keep on my plan?
If you do not have a preference then make sure you check the amount of providers in your area to be sure your plan has doctors close by.
If you have providers that you must keep, then check the insurance carrier's provider directory or call your providers to assure that they will be covered under your plan.
What medical deductible would we (I) be most comfortable with?
Do we (I) need office visit and prescription drug copays?

Choose a Financially Stable Health Insurance Company
The adage, "you get what you pay for" is very true in the health insurance industry. It is important that you know the insurance company you will be insured with. Financial strength is important, because unstable carriers tend to pull out of the state and leave their policyholders high and dry without coverage. This has been the trend in Utah, so to make things easy for you, we have done the research for you and have hand picked the best carriers. All the carriers quoted or represented on this site are the best in the state of Utah.
Know Your Health Conditions
In the individual health insurance market, you and your family may be declined or given a rate increase due to certain health conditions. Insurance carriers will assess your health risks and rate you accordingly. Just like auto insurance companies ask you questions about your driving history to find out what kind of driver and car they are insuring, health insurance companies ask you health questions to find out what types of health risks they are insuring.
If you or your family have certain health conditions that you feel may affect your eligibility, then please call us at 801-407-4404. We will pre-look your conditions with various insurance carriers to find out how you would be underwritten. In this situation it is best to apply with multiple carriers at the same time. By doing so, you will get to pick the best offer that comes back from the carriers.
Compare and Choose a Plan
This website gives you the tools necessary to compare health insurance plans from all the major Utah health insurance carriers. You can compare up to 4 plans at a time with our compare function found on the "results" page of your plan search. Click HERE to start your search. You may also request a quote on this site and a licensed professional will contact you to discuss your health insurance options. You may also call us directly at 1-866-446-1046.
Application Process
Once you have decided on a plan, fill out the application, make sure you sign and date it, and then send it to our agency. Your application may take 1-3 weeks to underwrite depending on the carrier. Once the carrier has given you an offer, we will contact you and talk to you about the offer. At that time you may accept or decline the offer.
I'm Approved, What Next?
Celebrate!!! Once you are approved and have accepted the offer, the carrier will establish your effective date, send you your health insurance cards and a detailed plan contract. You have a 10-day free look after you receive the contract, meaning you have ten days to cancel the policy without financial consequence. You are not locked into a timeframe in your contract and you may cancel your policy at any time. If you do plan to cancel your policy, be sure to contact your agent or the insurance company (do not just stop paying your premiums, insurance companies do not like that and it may affect future insurability with that carrier). You have your policy and now use it if needed!
